Grantham academy students rise to the challenge
Priory Ruskin Academy’s PE department has been buzzing with talented and enthusiastic students this term – resulting in a couple of county selections
Sporting fixtures form an important part of the school calendar and recently their girls have been very busy.
One of the events that Priory Ruskin students have participated in and supported is the Primary Netball Festivals, held at the Academy, and as a result of this event, four girls were selected to attend county trials in Lincoln. These students were Melanie Church, Courtney Sharples, Romaizza Herrera and Chelsea Smith.
All four girls were successful in the first selection and were asked back to a final one in November. All of them played extremely well and were a credit to the Academy.
As a result, Courtney who has been selected to attend the Lincolnshire County Netball Development Squad.
Elsewhere, Year 7 student Georgina Smith has been selected to represent the Lincs Cross Country team in the County Championships in January.
As well as the regular sporting curriculum, all students at Priory Ruskin have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities that begin at 8am, with some clubs not finishing until 9.30pm.
PE staff head a range of clubs including badminton, hockey, netball, gymnastics, yoga, football, rugby and table tennis.
The school has also made excellent links with the sporting community and they regularly invite professional sportsmen and women to work with and talk to the students.
